Taxonomy

Original description: Diagnosis: chitinozoan with characteristics of Angochitininae; vesicle conoid to pyriform; base slightly convex; distinct flexure; subcylindrical neck, elongated, ending with or without a flared collar; ornamentation as a dense lattice covering vesicle and neck; chains not observed.
Discussion: This new genus differs from other Angochitininae by its lattice ornamentation, reminiscent of that in Acanthochitina EISENACK. Stephanochitina GRIGNANI & MANTOVANI also has a network ornamentation, but its structure differs: it consists of very thick hairs connected by their distal ends, not a multilayered lattice as in Muscochitina.
Species placed in this genus: so far, it is a monospecific genus (M. muscosa n. sp.), but species such as Sphaerochitina dubia TAUGOURDEAU & JEKHOWSKY or S. fenestra TAUGOURDEAU & JEKHOWSKY might also belong here (ornamentation possibly destroyed in specimens figured by Taugourdeau). The prosome has not been observed. A relatively broad but low mucron occupies the apex of the vesicle.
