Taxonomy

Citation: Tanuchitininae Paris, 1981
Taxonomic rank: subfamily
Basionym: Tanuchitininae Paris, 1981
Type species: Genus Tanuchitina

Catalog entries: Tanuchitininae

Original description: Diagnosis: Conochitinidae with a smooth vesicle surface (which may be polished, felt-like, or smooth); chamber cylindro-conical to club-shaped; aboral margin rounded or pointed; presence of a membranous peri-basal or sub-basal carina, entire or fringed, not coinciding with the maximum diameter of the chamber. Mucron sometimes present; inter-chamber connections very fragile.

Distinguishing features:
Parent taxon (Conochitinidae): flexure inconspicuous
This taxon: carina

NB These concise distinguishing features statements are used in the tables of daughter-taxa to act as quick summaries of the differences between e.g. species of one genus.
They are being edited as the site is developed and comments on them are especially welcome.

Description

Biogeography and Palaeobiology

Biostratigraphic distribution

Geological Range:
Last occurrence (top): at top of Early Devonian Period (100% up, 393.3Ma, in Eifelian stage). Data source: Total of ranges of the species in this database
First occurrence (base): within Silurian Period (419.00-443.07Ma, base in Rhuddanian stage). Data source: Total of ranges of species in this database

Plot of occurrence data:
NB The ranges given for genera and higher taxa are the total ranges of species included in that taxon in this database - so the true total range of the taxon will usually be longer
