Original descriptions of taxa. For coccolithophores, and many calcispheres, these are pages from the Farinacci & Howe Catalog of Calcareous Nannofossils. In other cases (e.g. non-calcifying haptophytes) the data is directly compiled on this site. The "Catalogue of Calcareous Nannofossils" was originally compiled by Prof A. Farinacci 1969-1989, since 2000 it has been updated and extended by Richard Howe - see The Farinacci and Howe Catalog - an Introduction.

Compiled datavan Heck (1980 INA Newsletter 1(2) p.C4) noted that: To avoid erroneous 'corrections': the name charlottei in this case is not a girl's name, but it is derived from the name of some pastry, to which the species seems to have some resemblance; the termination therefore need not be feminine.
Editors' Notes
Alan Medd was in fact an accomplished cook as well as a nannopalaeontologist and being English he doubtless had an Apple Charlotte in mind, which the species certainly does resemble. Nonetheless in the paper he spelt the name charlotteii, the additonal -i- is a mistake here since the stem ends in a vowel. [editor's comment - JRY 2019]
