Taxonomy:
Distinguishing features:
Parent taxon (Algirosphaera): Body coccoliths with well-developed radial lath cycle; domal or double-lipped protrusion; coccosphere dimorphic, CFCs larger and taller
This taxon: Coccoliths have a rounded protrusion with tile cover, but no internal rods
Farinacci & Howe catalog pages: A. meteora *
Morphology:
Coccoliths: broadly elliptical, with constriction around base of the spine; proximal surface lacks central irregular cycle. The protrusion is hollow rather than filled by calcitic rods as in A. robusta.
