Parent taxon (B. clavus group): Spine conical, tapering with maximum width near base
This taxon: Spine short and tapers rapidly to a point. Typically the spine height is similar to base width.
The rim is relatively broad and the outer cycle is small and does not lie distally over the inner cycle. In overall shape the coccolith and spine resemble a short nail or pin.
