Citation: Braarudosphaera magnei Lefort 1972
Taxonomic rank: species

Distinguishing features:
Parent taxon (Braarudosphaera): Pentaliths approximately pentagonal, sutures go to edges of pentagon.
This taxon: Pentaliths rounded, and overlapping irregularly on coccosphere

Original description: Cellulae solitariae globosae aut tenuiter polis curtae, latae 15-18 μ, longae 18-20 µ Coccolithes ejusdem speciei, rotundati, alii super alios cooperentes; constit uti quinque crystallis. Diametros coccolithis 4-6 μ. Crassa paries cellulae et in faciem dracunculi. Uterque chromatophoris parietorum unum pyrenoidum continet. Multi globuli sepositionum. Nec stigma, neque haptonema. Duae flagelles priores pares diametro cellulae. Propagatur cellulae per fissionem in cellulas filias duas.

Morphology:

Pentaliths rounded, and numerous pentaliths occur on coccosphere overlapping irregularly. Not recorded since original description, but it was well-documented, by an experienced phycologist. Cells were observed in live samples and chloroplasts are clearly shown in light micrographs, in addition rare cells bore two sub-equal flagella.
