Braarudosphaera perampla

Classification: ntax_cenozoic -> Braarudosphaerales -> Braarudosphaeraceae -> Braarudosphaera -> Braarudosphaera perampla
Sister taxa: B. alta, B. bigelowii, B. insecta, B. magnei, B. pentagonica, B. perampla, B. perversus, B. sequela, B. stylifera, B. sp.

Taxonomy:

Citation: Braarudosphaera perampla Bown 2010
Taxonomic rank: species

Distinguishing features:
Parent taxon (Braarudosphaera): Pentaliths approximately pentagonal, sutures go to edges of pentagon.
This taxon: Large (>12µm) pentaliths with slightly rounded corners and convex upper surfaces

Farinacci & Howe catalog pages: B. perampla *

Morphology:

The convexity is due to the decreasing width of the constituent laminae. The laminae also change shape from stellate at the shortest width and most distal, to straight-edged at the maximum width

Size:
12-20µm

Search data:
LITHS: nannolith-radiate, pentagonal,
CSPH: equant, monomorphic, CROSS-POLARS: T-prominent,
Lith size: 12->21µm; Segments: 5->5; Coccosphere size: 24->42µm; Liths per sphere: 12->12
Data source notes: lith size (diameter) from OD; lith numbers assumed from geometry; csph size calculated from lith size

Geological Range:
Last occurrence (top): within NP23 zone (29.62-32.02Ma, top in Rupelian stage). Data source: Bown 2010
First occurrence (base): within NP6 zone (58.97-59.54Ma, base in Selandian stage). Data source: Bown 2010
