Classification: ntax_cenozoic -> Syracosphaerales -> Syracosphaeraceae -> Calciopappus -> Calciopappus caudatus
Sister taxa: C. rigidus, C. caudatus, C. curvus, C. sp.

Taxonomy:

Citation: Calciopappus caudatus Gaarder & Ramsfjell, 1954
Taxonomic rank: species

Distinguishing features:
Parent taxon (Calciopappus): Circum-flagellar coccoliths modified into elongate spines, supported by whorl coccoliths
This taxon: BCs oblong (1.4-1.9 µm) with oblique laths, whorl coccoliths without projection, no CFCs

Farinacci & Howe catalog pages: C. caudatus *

Morphology:

BCs - 1.5-2 µm, parallel sided, oblong, with laths showing strong sinistral obliquity, inner wall usually visible.
Whorl coccoliths - D-shaped, without projection. No CFC. Higher latitude form.
Csphs - usually elongate and tapering (caudate)
