Citation: Calyptrosphaera heimdaliae Norris, 1985

Synonyms:

Holococcolithophora heimdaliae (Norris 1985) Jordan et al. 2004. Name proposed based on the interpretation that Calyptrosphaera was a synonym of Syracosphaera. This is not established yet since the status of the type species, C. globosa is uncertain.

Distinguishing features:
Parent taxon (convex): Holococcoliths with tube, covered distally by a convex cover
This taxon: Tube and cover sharply separated; cover elevated with large openings at base and an apical perforation

Liths pointed domes, hexagonal mesh fabric; large openings above tube, and often a circular apical opening.

Possible combination coccosphere with Cyrtosphaera aculeata illustrated by Triantaphyllou et al. 2016
