Taxonomy:
Distinguishing features:
Parent taxon (Catinaster): Discoasterids with bifurcate ray tips that meet to form a basket like structure
This taxon: Curved rays extend beyond basket
Farinacci & Howe catalog pages: C. calyculus * , C. calyculus rectus * , C. coalitus extensus *
Curved rays extend beyond basket. (N.B. Peleo-Alampay and Wei, 1995, Peleo-Alampay et al., 1998, use basket shape as an alternative criterion for defining C. calyculus, but without markedly better biostratigraphic discrimination). The rays lengthen through the range of the species according to Martini (1981).
