Cyrtosphaera aculeata

Classification: ntax_cenozoic -> Syracosphaerales -> Rhabdosphaeraceae -> Cyrtosphaera -> Cyrtosphaera aculeata
Sister taxa: C. aculeata, C. cidaris, C. sp.

Taxonomy:

Citation: Cyrtosphaera aculeata (Kamptner 1941) Kleijne, 1992
Taxonomic rank: species
Basionym: Acanthoica aculeata Kamptner 1941
Synonyms:
Variants:

Distinguishing features:
Parent taxon (Cyrtosphaera): Body coccoliths with well-developed radial lath cycle, protrusion in centre; coccospheres varimorphic higher protrusions on circum-flagellar coccoliths
This taxon: BCs with prominent papillae CFC spines weakly developed

Farinacci & Howe catalog pages: A. aculeata * , S. lactaria * , C. lecaliae *

Morphology:

Coccoliths like A. cidaris, but protrusion ends in papilla and is modified into a spine in the apical liths.

Size:
Coccoliths with 26-38 laths, 1.8- 2.5 µm.
