Morphology:
Coccoliths: With large trumpet-like (salpingiform) spines. Coccolith bases are broadly elliptical, with normal rhabdosphaeraceae-type rim, radial and lamellar cycles. Spine circular in cross section, weakly attached to base above narrow pore in centre of the base, by organic (?) thread.
