Classification: ntax_cenozoic -> Mesozoic Survivors -> Markalius -> Markalius latus
Sister taxa: M. apertus, M. inversus, M. latus, M. neuquenensis, M. walvisensis, M. sp.

Taxonomy:

Citation: Markalius latus Shamrock & Watkins (2012)
taxonomic rank: Species
Taxonomic discussion: Separated from M. inversus by Shamrock & Watkins (2012) on the basis of a morphometric study which showed clear bimodality in the population, also this form is confined to the Early Eocene

Distinguishing features:
Parent taxon (Markalius): Circular placoliths with moderately birefringent shields, bright inner tube cycle and narrow or closed central areas.
This taxon: Markalius species with wide, but closed, central area
