Daughter taxa (time control age-window is: 0-800Ma)
Wigwamma annulifera
BCs simple rings, CFCs with wigwam of 2-4 rods, each with a flange.
Wigwamma antarctica
Dimorphic. BCs simple rings,
CFCs with wigwam of 2-4 rods, without flanges, one rod projects as a spine beyond tip of wigwam, poles of two types two broad (wing-like) and two narrow.
Wigwamma arctica
Monomorphic, all liths with wigwam of 4 rods.
Wigwamma armatura
Dimorphic. BCs simple rings, CFCs with wigwam of 4 similar rods, without flanges, rods project as tuft of spines beyond tip of wigwam
Wigwamma triradiata
Dimorphic. BCs have low wigwam of three struts;
CFCs high wigwam of two struts each with wing.

Taxonomy:

Citation: Wigwamma Manton et al., 1977
Taxonomic rank: genus
Type species: Wigwamma arctica Manton et al. 1977
Taxonomic discussion: Wigwamma was excluded from the Papposphaeraceae by Andruleit & Young (2010) and is only very tentatively included here.

Distinguishing features:
Parent taxon (Papposphaeraceae): Narrow-rimmed muroliths, mostly with prominent central structures.
This taxon: Coccoliths hoop-shaped with rods rising from rim to form wigwam-like structure

Biology & life-cycles

Combination coccopheres of Wigwamma and Calciarcus have been observed (Thomsen et al 1991 and Thomsen et al. 2013), although definitive associations between Wigwamma species and Calciarcus annulifera morphtoypes have not been established.
