Pedinocyclus

Classification: ntax_cenozoic -> Coccolith families inc sed -> Coccolith genera inc sed -> Pedinocyclus
Sister taxa: Aliculosphaera, Biantholithus, Camuralithus, Centumgemina, Craterolithus, Ellipsolithus, Gladiolithus, Ilselithina, Leesella, Luminocanthus, Pedinocyclus, Petasus

Daughter taxa (time control age-window is: 0-800Ma)
Pedinocyclus gibbsiae
Medium to large, circular coccoliths with broad rim, narrow, bright inner tube cycle (in XPL) and open central-area.  Rim elements are strongly inclined.
Pedinocyclus larvalis
Large circular coccoliths with broad, flat shield and rim elements joined along inclined sutures. Shield is dark in XPL but a narrow, brighter tube cycle is usually visible.
Geminilithella okayi

Pedinocyclus sp.
Specimens which cannot be assigned to any established species

Taxonomy:

Citation: Pedinocyclus Bukry & Bramlette, 1971
taxonomic rank: Genus
Type species: Pedinocyclus larvalis (Bukry & Bramlette, 1969) [Leptodiscus]
Synonyms: Leptodiscus Bukry & Bramlette (1969) - it was renamed Pedinocyclus since the name Leptodiscus was already used for a dinoflagellate.

Distinguishing features:
Parent taxon (Coccolith genera inc sed): Heterococcolith genera which cannot be assigned to any family
This taxon: Typically circular planolith coccoliths with broad, flat shield and rim elements joined along inclined sutures. Shield is dark in XPL but a narrow, brighter tube cycle may be present.
