Large non-birefringent elliptical holococcolith comprising a perforate framework with a large central pore and 9-13 marginal pores.
Clathrolithus ellipticus
Large, solid, elliptical and ‘C’-shaped holococcoliths that have honeycomb-like ridges on one surface.
Clathrolithus joidesa
C-shaped nannoliths only observed in side view. Similar in appearance to Clathrolithus ellipticus but lacking clear ridges and pores.
Clathrolithus minutus
Like Clathrolithus ellipticus but with a greater number of smaller pores/perforations (~<0.5 µm).

Specimens which cannot be assigned to any established species

Synonyms: Peritrachelina Deflandre 1952 (type species P. ornata was synonimised with the type species of Clathrolithus - C. ellipticus by Bown 2005)
Taxonomic discussion: Peritrachelina appears to be a senior synonym of Clathrolithus, so the taxonomy probably should be revised [JRY Aug 2014].

This taxon: Unusual holococcoliths with non-coccolith morphology typically comprising an elliptical, concavo-convex, domed, perforate framework.
