Original descriptions of taxa - also emended descriptions for a few taxa. For coccolithophores, and many calcispheres, these are pages from the Farinacci & Howe Catalog of Calcareous Nannofossils. In other cases (e.g. non-calcifying haptophytes) the data is directly compiled on this site. The "Catalogue of Calcareous Nannofossils" was originally compiled by Prof A. Farinacci 1969-1989, since 2000 it has been updated and extended by Richard Howe - see The Farinacci and Howe Catalog - an Introduction.

Deflandrius quadripunctatus (Górka 1957) Reinhardt & Górka 1967 (alt comb) synonym according to Verbeek 1977. The original holotype illustration of Gorka 1957, of Tremalithus quadripunctatus bore little or no semblance to Prediscosphaera in general or to P. spinosa in particular. The lectotype selected by Reinhardt & Gorka (1967) is, very similar to P. spinosa, but since it does not correspond to either the holotype illustration or description the legitimacy of the lectotype is dubious at best.
Editors' Notes Verbeek (1977) placed this in Prediscosphaera but this suggestion has not been widely followed, possibly because the holotype illustration is so poor.
