Biscutum braloweri

Classification: ntax_cenozoic -> Mesozoic Survivors -> Biscutaceae -> Biscutum -> Biscutum braloweri
Sister taxa: B. harrisonii, B. braloweri, B. neocoronum, B. sp.

Taxonomy:

Citation: Biscutum braloweri Gibbs & Bown in Bown et al. 2014
taxonomic rank: Species
Taxonomic discussion: In the printed version of the original publication the taxon name appeared incorrectly on the plate as Biscutum braloweria and Toweius braloweri

Distinguishing features:
Parent taxon (Biscutum): Elliptical placoliths with broad shields with or without a prominent inner tube cycle; the central-area may be imperforate or narrow and vacant or spanned by a simple structure (plate, cross or bar).
This taxon: Coccoliths medium-sized, central area closed or with narrow opening, coccospheres ovoid to ellipsoidal

Farinacci & Howe catalog pages: B. braloweri *

Morphology:

Coccosphere shape is distinctive, coccolith structure poorly established and possibly close to that of Prinsiaceae. Opening of central area often varies on single coccospheres.

Search data:
