Taxonomy:
Distinguishing features:
Parent taxon (Lithostromationaceae): Large (10-20µm) triangular to stellate nannoliths with porous structure formed from small crystallites. In xpl behave as single crystal unit with low birefringence
This taxon: Triangular to stellate nannoliths with porous structure formed from small crystallites. All show 3-fold symetry but with a wide range of forms.

Hello Jeremy.
In the article "The fossil record of coastal coccolithophores" - 2019, you posted a photo of Lithostromation stellaris. But I did not find a description of this species. I also met similar specimens in the Eocene, I could not identify them. It looks like Lithostromation simplex or Trochoaster martinii, but they are certainly not. Do you have a description of this species and its stratigraphic distribution. Why is this species not in Nanotax3 ?
Hi Vladimir
Polycladolithus stellaris was described by Stradner 1959 and reillustrated by Stradner et al 2010, it is generally regarded as a junior synonym of L. simplex. I am not sure if the combination Lithostromation stellaris has been formally proposed - Paul Bown wrote the relevant part of the paper on shallow marine nannos. I will ask him.
