Alisphaera pinnigera

Classification: ntax_cenozoic -> Coccolith families inc sed -> Alisphaeraceae -> Alisphaera -> Alisphaera pinnigera
Sister taxa: A. capulata, A. ordinata, A. quadrilatera ⟩⟨ A. extenta, A. gaudii ⟩⟨ A. unicornis, A. bidentata, A. pinnigera, A. sp.

Taxonomy:

Citation: Alisphaera pinnigera Kleijne et al., 2002
Rank: Species
Variants:

Distinguishing features:
Parent taxon (Alisphaera): Coccoliths placolith-like, with asymmetrical distal flange
This taxon: Dimorphic, most coccoliths with no protrusion, a few with a sharp spike-like protrusion. Coccoliths also smaller and smoother than those of A. unicornis with narrower central area and well-developed teeth (but often hidden on the coccosphere by the overlapping flange of the adjacent coccolith).
