Distinguishing features: Pentaliths with long spines protuding from the points.


Morphology: Moshkovitz (1987) illustrated very well presrved forms in the SEM and showed that the central disk has one large depression in each plate, a structure reminiscent of Pemma in the Cenozoic. Moshkovitz (1987) also noted that there was a cleardifference betwen the tow sides of the pntalith with one side showing the depressions and the other flat. The spines give the nannolith an overall concao-convex shape and Moshokovitz (1987) termed the concave side proximal. However the depressions occur on the concave side and by analogy with Pemma this is likely to be the distal side.
