Taxonomic discussion: Often seen in side view.

Distinguishing features: Muroliths with very high wall (similar to coccolith width) and well-developed central-area cross. V-unit cycle dominates and results in a moderately birefringent unicyclic LM image.

Size: Mostly medium to large (6-10 µm across) but appear larger because they are thick blocky structures, and can be very large (up to 18 µm for C. vandenberghi)
