Original description: Chloroplast containing cells, 2.0-6.0 um in diameter possibly up to twice as large when living, with two equal flagella 9-27 um in length, and a haptonema much Ionger than the flagella, in 18-30 coils when fixed. Cell body covered by a single, slightly ovate scale type, 0.4-1.0 um in diameter and quite variable in size, both within and beween individuals. Proximal scale surface with a simple radial pattern, ca. 36 lines per scale in small scales, up to 270 in larger scales. Distal face with a concentric pattern. Some scales in some individuals with one or two small, circular to ovate dimples near the center of the scale on both scale faces.
