Corisphaera gracilis

Classification: ntax_cenozoic -> Holococcoliths -> bridged -> Corisphaera -> Corisphaera gracilis
Sister taxa: C. gracilis, C. sp. type B, C. tyrrheniensis, C. sp.

Taxonomy:

Citation: Corisphaera gracilis Kamptner, 1937
Rank: Species
Taxonomic discussion: Historically C. gracilis was used as a bucket identification but the forms illustrated here are very close to the type ilustration. Nothesless some rather variable morphotypes are assigned to C. gracilis and it may prove to include several discrete species, see Cros & Fortuño (2002).

Distinguishing features: BCs tube simple, with 2-layered wall; distal surface open except low, narrow, slightly oblique, s-shaped, bridge.
CFCs bridge extended into short leaf.
