Dicrateria rotunda

Classification: ntax_cenozoic -> Isochrysidales -> Isochrysidaceae -> Dicrateria -> Dicrateria rotunda
Sister taxa: D. gilva, D. rotunda

Taxonomy:

Citation: Dicrateria rotunda (Reynolds 1974) Bendif & Probert, in Bendif et al. 2013
Rank: Species
Basionym: Imantonia rotunda Reynolds 1974
Taxonomic discussion: This species has mostly been referedto in the literature as Imantonia rotunda. It was discussed and revised by Green & Pienaar (1977). Edvardsen et al. (2000) placed it in the Prymensiales based on molecular genetic results but this was reversed by Bendif et al. (2013) based on new molecular genetic work, which also demonstrated that it was very closely related to Dicrateria inornata

Original description: Cells motile, more or less spherical, 3-4 µm in diameter, not metabolic. Flagella two, smooth, homodynamic, 1-1½ cell diameters in length; haptonema not found. Two golden-brown parietal chloroplasts in younger cells, sometimes four or five in older cells, with embedded pyrenoids. Cell body bearing circular scales with coarse radial fibrils on their proximal faces; diameter approximately 0.5 µm

Morphology: Cell spherical; Flagella equal, haptonema absent; Scales plate-like (2 types) with radial ribs (few) some concentric ribs; Pyrenoids immersed, traversed by thylakoids (Edvardsen et al. 2011)

Cultures: strains of this species are maintained in culture, for details see Roscoff culture collection.
