Taxonomic discussion: Often seen in side view in light microscope and as complete coccospheres.

Distinguishing features: Small circular to elliptical placoliths with narrow central area and tube-elements extended distally to form a flower-like distal structure.

Morphology: Easily overlooked since loose coccoliths are very small and coccospheres resemble calcareous dinoflagellates but they are very distinctive once they have been observed
