Distinguishing features: Variably tall cylindrical nannofossils with a narrow axial canal, that flare from a small basal disc to form a trumpet shape.  Formed from a single cycle of crystal units with co-planar radial c-axes.

Morphology: Described by Bown & Dunkley Jones (2006) as "Variably tall nannoliths that flare from a small basal disc to form a trumpet shape. They appear to be formed from a single crystallographic unit, have a narrow axial canal and are usually seen in side-view. However, the appearance in xpl suggests that they are heterococcoliths predominantly formed from R-units with horizontal c-axes - i.e. all the c-axes are co-planar and so in edge view appear to behave as a single optical unit. Note the central dark line where the c-axes are pointing directly toward the camera, if the nannofossil was formed of a single crystal unit this part would appear bright. [my interpretation - JRY 2017]

Size: Type material height 2.0-6.9 microns.
