Original descriptions of taxa. For coccolithophores, and many calcispheres, these are pages from the Catalog of Calcareous Nannofossils. In other cases (e.g. non-calcifying haptophytes) the data is directly compiled on this site. The "Catalogue of Calcareous Nannofossils" was compiled by Prof A. Farinacci 1969-1989 and updated by Richard Howe 2000-2016 - see also this page.
Taxa are sorted alphabetically for simple browsing, or you can use search boxes at the top & bottom of the page

Editors' Notes

Google translate: Pentaliths with component parts that have a heart-shaped outline without the long extensions. The items are viewed from the flat side, strongly thickened in the central part, so that the long projections lie in another optical plane. The extensions can be rotated significantly, in the extreme case so that all are twisted in the same direction to one side. Some segments may carry two extensions, others not . The seam lines appear, through the thickness of the central part due to more or less curved.

Diameter 12-21 microns; corroded , ie without long appendages 5 microns

Relationships : M. mirabilis differs from M. bramlettei , with whom the metamorphosing near should be, by the aberrant form of the items , but in particular the fact that rays and central field of looking at a flat side does not lie in one optical plane
