Taxonomic discussion: The spine is taller and narrower than that of Orthozygus aureus, and has a relatively broad central cavity that is quite distinct from the spines of Zygrhablithus bijugatus. It also lacks the crystallographically distinct rim cycle of the latter.

Distinguishing features: Holococcolith that in side-view comprises a low basal coccolith and a relatively tall, hollow spine that tapers to a point. Both coccolith and spine are birefringent and crystallographically continuous in XPL.
