Palaeomicula jacovidesii

Classification: ntax_mesozoic -> Braarudosphaerales -> Polycyclolithaceae -> Palaeomicula -> Palaeomicula jacovidesii
Sister taxa: P. jacovidesii, P. maltica, P. quadrisphena

Distinguishing features:
Parent taxon (Palaeomicula): Nannolith formed of four blocks, nannolith shape is approx square with diagonal sutures, elements show tangential crystallographic orientations
This taxon: Medium-sized (4.0–7.0 μm) circular species with four imbricated, triangular, segments positioned along the sinusoidal sutures.

Parent taxon (Palaeomicula): Nannolith formed of four blocks, nannolith shape is approx square with diagonal sutures, elements show tangential crystallographic orientations
This taxon: Medium-sized (4.0–7.0 μm) circular species with four imbricated, triangular, segments positioned along the sinusoidal sutures.

Morphology:

Paleomicula jacovidesii is a circular nannolith having four smooth imbricated and triangular segments and distinct sinusoidal sutures. The thick imbricated edges of the segments along the sinusoidal sutures can be clearly observed.
It is easily distinguished from the other species of Paleomicula by being circular and having sinusoidal sutures and imbricated triangular segments. Tetralithus quadrisphenus and Palaeomicula maltica have quadrate outlines with wedge-shaped segments. [Varol & Bowman 2019]
