Taxonomy:

Citation: Papposphaera HOL
Taxonomic rank: genus
Type species:
Synonyms: These holococcoliths were originally described as a discrete genus, Turrisphaera, but they are now known to be fromed on the alternate life-cycle phase of Papposphaera.

Distinguishing features:
Parent taxon (open-tube): Holococcoliths with tube, open distally (or cover recessed)
This taxon: Tower-like holococcoliths formed from hexagonal crystallite groups.

Biology & life-cycles

All the described holococcolith species have extremely similar cocoliths and have been shown to form associations with Papposphaera heterococcolith phases.
