Taxonomy:
These holococcoliths were originally described as a discrete genus, Turrisphaera, but they are now known to be fromed on the alternate life-cycle phase of Papposphaera.
Distinguishing features: Tower-like holococcoliths formed from hexagonal crystallite groups.

Biology & life-cycles: All the described holococcolith species have extremely similar cocoliths and have been shown to form associations with Papposphaera heterococcolith phases.
