- Turrisphaera borealis Manton, Sutherland and Oates 1976 - this was the name for the holococcolith stage prior to recognition of the life-cycle association by Thomsen et al. (1991)
- Papposphaera borealis (Manton, Sutherland and Oates 1976) Thomsen, Østergaard and Hansen 1991. This combination was proposed by Thomsen et al. (1991) and has been widely used. However, Thomsen et al. (2016) note that the name P. sagittifera Manton et al. 1976 has prioirity over T. borealis Manton et al. 1976
Taxonomic discussion: This species is described and discussed in depth by Thomsen et al. (2016)
Distinguishing features: Central areas with axial cross and 2-4 additional longitudinal bars;
Process 2-4 µm high with small calyx of 4 radially diverging blades.
