Variant: Pavlomulinales is regarded here as a variant of Haptophytes.
I.e. It is a subjective junior synonym, but some workers many find it useful for some studies (e.g. experienced biostratigraphers working with abundant, well preserved material), but for most purposes differentiating it is not reccomended. Diagnosis of class: Cells found widely in marine waters. One nucleus, two to four chloroplasts surrounded by four membranes. Peripheral endoplasmic reticulum beneath the cell membrane. 190-hexanoyloxyfucoxanthin and 4-keto-hexanoyloxyfucoxanthin absent. Flag- ellate cells with two flagella and a haptonema. Flagella with knob scales.]
