Original description: Cells motile or palmelloid. Motile cells solitary, not metabolic, slipper-shaped, in dorsal view oblong, obovate or weakly pear-shaped, dorsoventrally compressed, (5-)6-9 x 3½-6 x 2½-3 µm. On the ventral side a depression a short distance from the anterior pole and extending to one-third or half the length of the cell and continued in posterior direction by an indistinct furrow.
Two unequal heterodynamic flagella and a thin haptonema arising ventrally close together from the posterior part of the depression. One flagellum 6-10 ≤m long, in rest sinuately coiled, clad with very small stellate particles and long spreading hairs. The other flagellum 2-3 µm long, generally flexed backwards, with long spreading hairs. Haptonema 1-2 µm long. A single chloroplast, parietal, pale yellow-green, with four lobes projecting from the dorsally positioned isthmus, and with an eyespot on the edge near the flagellar insertion.
A pit entering the cell near the base of the long flagellum, terminating in a globose sac.
Two vacuoles with reserve materials in the posterior part of the cell.
Dome-shaped vesicles of varying size irregularly distributed in the outer layer of cytoplasm.
