Original Description
Braune Algen, deren Zellen sich in der Mutterhülle teilen und zwei- bis vielzellige, unregelmässig kurz fadenförmig auswachsende Kolonien bilden. Meist zwei Chromatophoren in jeder Zelle. Als Reservestoffe Fett und Chrysose. Die Schwärmer haben zwei lange Geisseln und zwei Chromatophoren mit Pyrenoiden.

Etymology: Wegen der Ähnlichkeit mit Pleurococcus wurde dieser braunen Alge der Gattungsname Pleurochrysis gegeben
