Rhomboaster

Classification: ntax_mesozoic -> Nannoliths inc sedis -> Nannoliths inc sed - other -> Rhomboaster
Sister taxa: Ceratolithina, Ceratolithoides, Liliasterites, Marthasterites, Orthogonoides, Rhomboaster, Tripinnalithus, Watkinsia

Distinguishing features:
Parent taxon (Nannoliths inc sed - other): Nannolith genera without clear affinities to any other genera
This taxon: Monocrytsalline rhombic nannolith

Daughter taxa (time control age-window is: 0-800Ma)
Rhomboaster svabenickiae
Medium-sized cuboid nannolith with concave faces and extended corners.

Taxonomy:

Citation: Rhomboaster Bramlette & Sullivan 1961
Rank: Genus

Taxonomic discussion:
Bralower & Bergen 1998 used  the genus Rhomboaster in the Mesozoic for the species R. svabenickiae. This is unfortunate, since although it is very similar to Late Paleocene Rhomboaser the long stratigraphic separation betwen the forms makes it most likely that it is an unrelated homoeomorph.
