Taxonomy:
Original description: Cells solitary, motile, 3-7.5 µm in diameter, metabolic, covered by several layers of scales with superficial pattern of around 40 radial ridges. Flagella two, equal (around 7 µm) inserted apically with abbreviated haptonema (100 nm) between with three to four microtubules in emergent part and bearing small oval scales with central swelling and around 12 radial ridges. Plastid single, parietal, yellow-brown with immersed pyrenoid. Asexual reproduction by division in motile and non-motile stages. Non-motile cells embedded in thin layer of mucilage
