Distinguishing features: Medium sized (typically 6-8 µm) with 4 large pores.

Morphology: Medium to large; elliptical to sub-circular; central area spanned by a fine proximal net and 4, broad, proximal to distal conjunct axial bars, which may be pierced by fine perforations where they meet. Only the axial bars are visible in LM.

Most likely ancestor: Toweius tovae - at confidence level 3 (out of 5). Data source: implicit in Bybell & Self-Trail (1995, p.11) and Romein (1979).
Likely descendants: Toweius occultatus;
