Umbellosphaera tenuis type I

Classification: ntax_cenozoic -> Coccolith families inc sed -> Umbellosphaeraceae -> Umbellosphaera -> Umbellosphaera tenuis -> Umbellosphaera tenuis type I
Sister taxa: U. tenuis type I, U. tenuis type II, U. tenuis type IIIa, U. tenuis type IIIb, U. tenuis type IV, U. tenuis type O

Taxonomy:

Citation: Umbellosphaera tenuis type I sensu Kleijne 1993
Rank: type
Taxonomic discussion: A specimen illustrated by Norris (1971, fig.3) appears to show a grill in the central area, this is due to an Ophiaster coccolith having fallen onto it.

Distinguishing features:
Parent taxon (Umbellosphaera tenuis): Coccoliths convex outwards, relatively heavily calcified, with ridges on the distal surface.
This taxon: Coccoliths with distinct sutural ridges and numerous finer papillate secondary ridges
