Taxonomic discussion: More complexly constructed than other species of Varolia.

Distinguishing features: Multi-element, cavate, box-like holococcolith with a pointed apical structure. The walls of the box and apical structure comprise narrow, birefringent, crystallographically distinct elements that are birefringent in XPL.
