Original description: Cells usually saddle shaped resembling those of C. strobilus but smaller, measuring approximately 7 µm in length and width. Two flagella c. 20 µm long. The haptonema, approximately 60 µm in length, coiled into a helix of 20-30 gyres when retracted; containing 6 microtubules internally. Scales smaller than those of C. strobilus. The cup scales, c. 0.1 µm wide - 0.15 µm deep, imperforate, with slightly oblique longitudinal striations of two different thicknesses radiating from the centre. Plate scales, c. 0.25 µm long - 0.2 µm wide similarly striated but with a row of marginal perforations.
