Classification: ntax_main -> Holococcoliths -> fossil holococcoliths -> Peritrachelina
Sister taxa: Daktylethra, Holodiscolithus, Lanternithus, Multipartis, Octolithus, Quadrilateris, Semihololithus, Varolia, Youngilithus, Zygrhablithus ⟩⟨ Aubrysphaera, Corannulus, Orthozygus, Peritrachelina, Unidentified fossil holococcoliths

Daughter taxa (time control age-window is: 0-800Ma)
Peritrachelina arenaria
Large non-birefringent elliptical holococcolith comprising a perforate framework with a large central pore and 9-13 marginal pores.
Peritrachelina joidesa
C-shaped nannoliths only observed in side view. Similar in appearance to Peritrachelina elliptica, but lacking clear ridges and pores.
Peritrachelina minuta
Like Peritrachelina elliptica but with a greater number of smaller pores/perforations (~<0.5 µm).
Peritrachelina ornata
Large, solid, elliptical and ‘C’-shaped holococcoliths that have honeycomb-like ridges on one surface.
Peritrachelina sp.
Specimens which cannot be assigned to any established species

Taxonomy:
Citation: Peritrachelina Deflandre 1952
Taxonomic rank: genus
Basionym: Clathrolithus Deflandre in Deflandre & Fert, 1954
Type species: Clathrolithus ellipticus Deflandre in Deflandre & Fert, 1954
Taxonomic discussion: Peritrachelina is a senior synonym of Clathrolithus, so the taxonomy was revised by Young 2023 [JRY Aug 2014].

Distinguishing features:
Parent taxon (fossil holococcoliths): Holococcolith genera only known from the fossil record
This taxon: Unusual holococcoliths with non-coccolith morphology typically comprising an elliptical, concavo-convex, domed, perforate framework.

Morphology:
Low birefringence in XPL.
