Taxonomic discussion: The holotype illustration is ambiguous but has been interpreted as being of a reticulofenestrid coccolith, and this has been supported by subsequent studies of reticulofenestrids from the region.

Parent taxon (R. umbilicus group): Paleogene elliptical reticulofenestrids with open central area (spanned by delicate proximal net, not visible in lm)
This taxon: Large (10-15 µm) elliptical Reticulofenestra with narrow rim, flaring-collar, and very wide central area filled with a finely perforate plate divided by a median suture


Morphology:
Shafik (1989) and Wei & Wise (1990) have ilustrated specimens with the inner tube elements extended to form a low flaring wall around the central area on the distal side. Illustrated specimens are 10 to 15 µm long.

Geological Range:
Notes: Reviewed in Persico et al. (2014) they concluded the range was within chrons C15 to C13r, which corresponds to mid NP19-20 to NP21.
