Bussonius prinsii

Classification: ntax_mesozoic -> Watznaueriales -> Watznaueriaceae -> Bussonius -> Bussonius prinsii
Sister taxa: B. fecheri, B. prinsii, B. leufuensis, B. sp.

Distinguishing features:
Parent taxon (Bussonius): Elliptical watznaueriacean coccoliths with broad V-unit cycle, which results in a three tiered placolith structure. Moderately birefringent in XPL.
This taxon: Small (4-6µm) Bussonius with narrow shields and wide central area; distal shield elevated, 3-4   radial bars per quadrant.

Taxonomy:

Citation: Bussonius prinsii (Noël, 1973) Goy in Goy et al., 1979
taxonomic rank: Species
Basionym: Staurorhabdus prinsi Noël, 1973

This taxon: Small (4-6µm) Bussonius with narrow shields and wide central area; distal shield elevated, 3-4   radial bars per quadrant.

Morphology:

The central area is spanned by a solid-spine-bearing axial cross and 3-4 lateral bars per quadrant. Distal shield/V-unit cycle is distinctly elevated.
