Mazaganella protensa

Classification: ntax_mesozoic -> Podorhabdales -> Mazaganellaceae -> Mazaganella -> Mazaganella protensa
Sister taxa: M. protensa, M. pulla, M. sp.

Distinguishing features:
Parent taxon (Mazaganella): Three-shielded placoliths with a wide central-area spanned by a variety of bars, grills, nets or plates. The distal shield may be high and flaring. The distal shield is formed from non-imbricating elements, joined along radial sutures. LM image is generally dark, but birefringence increases when the distal shield is high.
This taxon: Mazaganella with a narrow rim, elevated distal shield, distinct inner cycle and a central area axial cross that bears a hollow spine. Bicyclic rim image in XPL.
