Prediscosphaera bukryi

Classification: ntax_mesozoic -> Podorhabdales -> Prediscosphaeraceae -> Prediscosphaera -> P. spinosa group -> Prediscosphaera bukryi
Sister taxa: P. arkhangelskyi, P. borealensis, P. bukryi, P. incohatus, P. mgayae, P. rhombica, P. spinosa, P. stoveri

Distinguishing features:
Parent taxon (P. spinosa group): Elliptical Prediscophaera species with an axial cross
This taxon: Small (4-5 µm); central area restricted; inner-rim cycle narrow

Taxonomy:

Citation: Prediscosphaera bukryi Perch-Nielsen, 1973
taxonomic rank: Species
Synonyms: Prediscosphaera honjoi Bukry 1969. This is essentially an alternative name for the same species. Perch-Nielsen (1973) followed the same species concept as Bukry - ie an eliptical Prediscosphaera with an axial cross distinguished by having small size and restricted central area with a narrow inner-rim cycle. She also included Bukry's paratypes in her synonymy, but she argued that Bukry's holotype did not fit the species concept since the cross was diagonal rather than axial. Following this the name P. bukryi has been generally used.
