Taxonomy:
Citation: Rhagodiscus pancostii Lees, 2007
Taxonomic rank: species

Distinguishing features:
Parent taxon (Rhagodiscus): Loxolith coccoliths with low rim and central-area filled by a granular plate which may be perforate and/or spine-bearing. In xpl the rim is unicyclic moderately bright, the central area is granular, lacking a clear extinction cross.
This taxon: Small (holotype 4 µm), with small slender spine with bright tip

Farinacci & Howe catalog pages:
R. pancostii *

Morphology:
"A small, elliptical species of Rhagodiscus that bears a very small, delicate spine. The spine-tip appears bright in XPL. Differentiation: Similar to R. achlyostaurion, but with a spine-base/top that is much smaller, and does not occupy most of the central area. R. gallagheri is somewhat similar, but has no spine and is more narrowly elliptical. The specimen in Pl.4, figs 5, 6 has a narrower, brighter rim, which differs from that seen in R. pancostii; this specimen may be Orastrum partitum." [Lees 2007]

Size:
Holotype dimensions: L = 3.96μm, W = 2.86μm
