Taxonomy:

Citation: Tanzanella Lees, 2007
taxonomic rank: Genus
Type species: Tanzanella bownii Lees, 2007
Taxonomic discussion: Lees used the name Tanzanensis on plates in Perez-Rodriguez et al. 2012

Distinguishing features:
Parent taxon (Rarer genera): Less common genera
This taxon: Cavate holococcolith with internal walls and distal protrusions

Morphology:

"Holococcoliths with a complex structure, as seen in side view. In XPL, rotated to 45 ̊, the rim and proximal plate are thin, birefringent and clearly visible. Encased within these is a blocky structure, from the distal surface of which emanate four ‘prongs’." [Lees 2007]
