Sister taxa: Calcigonellum, Calciodinellum, Centosphaera, Cervisiella, Fuettererella, Lebessphaera, Operculodinella, Scrippsiella, Thoracosphaera

Distinguishing features:
Parent taxon (Tangential wall): Wall formed of crystals with tangential c-axes (Thoracosphara s.l.)
This taxon: Spherical, with circular archaeopyle, no paratabulation. Wall structure irregular with tangential c-axes.

Daughter taxa (time control age-window is: 0-800Ma)

Cervisiella saxea

Cervisiella sp.

Taxonomy:

Citation: Cervisiella Hildebrand-Habel, H. Willems & Versteegh 1999
taxonomic rank: Genus
Type species: Cervisiella saxea (Stradner) Hildebrand-Habel, Willems & Versteegh 1999
Taxonomic discussion: The name Cervisiella is derived from the Latin for beer Cervisia (Hildebrand-Habel et al. 1999)

Catalog entries: Cervisiella

Distinguishing features:
Parent taxon (Tangential wall): Wall formed of crystals with tangential c-axes (Thoracosphara s.l.)
This taxon: Spherical, with circular archaeopyle, no paratabulation. Wall structure irregular with tangential c-axes.

Original description: Spherical calcareous dinoflagellate cysts with circular archaeopyles, not showing paratabulation. The outer calcareous wall consists of irregularly shaped and arranged crystallites. Under the light microscope in crossed nicols and with gypsum plate, thin sections exhibit clear interference colours and have a positive optic sign, thus indicating tangentially oriented c-axes.

Geological Range:
Last occurrence (top): at top of Middle Miocene Sub-Epoch (100% up, 11.6Ma, in Tortonian stage). Data source: Total of ranges of the species in this database
First occurrence (base): within Maastrichtian Stage (66.04-72.17Ma, base in Maastrichtian stage). Data source: Total of ranges of species in this database
