Original description: Cells round to oblong (8–14 x 6–10 µm), often dorso-ventrally compressed with two golden brown chloroplasts. Haptonema (12–20 mm) and two flagella (14–24 µm long) inserted apically. Scaly covering composed of two round to oval scale types. Inner layer scales (0.7–0.9 x 0.8–1.0 µm) with imbricated rim. Outer layer scales (0.5–0.8 x 0.6–0.9 µm) with upright rim. All scales with radiating ribs (c. 75–85) on both distal and proximal faces.
